Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physio?

Spiral Physiotherapy is pleased to accept referrals from other healthcare providers and personal trainers and, is an advocate for referring patients on for care beyond the scope of physiotherapy. Importantly, Physiotherapists are defined as primary healthcare practitioners. Accordingly, Spiral Physiotherapy does not explicitly require a referral from other healthcare providers or individuals from the fitness industry.

Will the physio refer me for a scan?

Contemporary understandings of scans emphasise that images are only part of the diagnostic puzzle but not evidence of a condition in itself. Simply, using a scan solely as a diagnostic tool is a bit like putting the cart before the horse. It’s the classic idiom that a correlation does not necessarily equal an association. Accordingly, some patient presentation may or may not require a scan referral to confirm a diagnostic suspicion highlighted by physio assessments.
